1955 Marx, #1899 Military Transport Truck with Howitzer Cannon Set in Original Box
Outstanding mint in box, store stock. Unused, just removed from the original box for the first time. Includes a pressed steel litho military transport truck, a plastic Howitzer cannon with wooden shells, and original unused tarpaulin truck cover with steel ribs. The cannon comes in its original illustrated box. Both it, and the truck fit into a larger shipping box marked #1899. The set did not originally include soldier figures. Superb steel litho truck lithographed on both sides. One side in olive drab and includes military emblems, truck details (steps, handles, stake bed sides, etc.). The other side was lithoed in a very light sand color beige. You can see this when looking at the underside of the cab and of course inside the trailer bed. I don't recall seeing this before. The truck has plastic treaded tires, a separately embossed front grille/headlight assembly and rear mounting hitch to tow the cannon. It also has its original canvas tarpaulin cover. Neatly stitched around all four sides it's lays squarely flat and has never been used. The original steel mounting ribs were still lying inside the tarp when the box was opened. They've never been inserted into the truck bed. The Howitzer cannon is extensively detailed and includes a spring action breach which propels the wooden shells. It's complete with all eight, embossed, yellow wooden shells still sealed in their original bag. The cannon is all plastic. It has two large rubber tires marked "Lumar". The shells fit into holes located on the cannon's trailer. It easily connects to the truck's rear hitch. The set includes the original illustrated box for the Howitzer which was also sold separately. There was no separate box for the truck. It all neatly fits into a large shipping box marked "military transport with cannon". The set originally sold for $3.49. A different set with soldiers was 50¢ more. The box is complete with original inserts. Size: Truck 13½", Cannon 12½". Sold: Jun. 2005
